young gunns

Sunday, June 14, 2009 by ww adventures
they're baaaack   Just like the Stanley Cup Champions Pittsburgh Penguins, we start them young. They have Jordon, Sidney and Geno, who set the hockey world on fire. The Ohiopyle rafting world has Gordo, Buck and Shane. These kids have been white water rafting and kayaking for almost half of their lives. They love what what they are doing. Wouldn't you? Their playground is Ohiopyle State Park and the Youghiogheny River. So when visiting Ohiopyle PA or you want to go rafting, biking or hiking, ask for one of these young gunns, they enjoy showing off what they do.

The sights one sees when vacationing in and around the Ohiopyle area. I was thinking about whitewater rafting and a kayaker freind said "look to your left".  Well I knew Ohiople was settled by the Indians, hence the name Ohiopyle and Youghiogheny, but I didn't realize they were still here!   Actually this guy was part of a reinactment, showing past traditions.    He was also a large part of the conversations between the rafters, vacationers and the locals. Now if he was getting into a kayak or raft...

WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Sunday, May 31, 2009 by ww adventures

Recentely we had a guest call us at the Yough Plaza Motel, and asked if we could do something special to the motel room. I knew right away that Ruby our main housekeeper here at White Water Adventurers could do the  job above and beyond. And she did, although the whole surprise was almost blown by me, I called to confirm this with him,and got his wife instead she thought something was up. I tried my best to cover up what was being done. So neither the husband nor the wife knew this is what they were going to coming to that night.

Our effort with the 3 R's

This is Laura, one of our seasoned guides, and we like to think of her as a recycling superhero. Her powers included x-ray litter vision and a thumb that is as green as her tomato plants. Be careful to not have any polystyrene in her vicinity as it is her Kryptonite, the evil Styrofoam. Thanks to Laura we are striving to be as green as we can be. She has inspired us all to reduce waste and recycle all that we can. If you have any ideas on how we can continue to be environmentally responsible in the environmentally beautiful Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania let us know. Bring your whole family for a white water rafting vacation and witness Laura's powers that are only enhanced when on the water.

Beat the Heat!

Wednesday, May 27, 2009 by ww adventures
It seems we are all adjusting to the temperature fluctuations as spring comes to an end and another great summer is just around the corner. Here are some great ideas on what to do when you see the mercury rising.
  • Guided or unguided trips down the river are available via raft, duckie, or shreder.
  • The Laural Highlands are littered with great swimming holes, including the natural water slides right here in Ohiopyle.
  • Hit the bike trail. Most of the old rail road bed is now canopied with fresh leaf growth.
  • Or just hang out in our coffee shop sipping on a nice cold beverage.

Light up the Falls

Thursday, May 21, 2009 by ww adventures

Ohiopyle State Park will have the waterfall lit up with various vibrantly colored lights on Saturday May 23rd at 8:30 PM. This is a sight you will not want to miss. Home to one of Pennsylvania's most spectacular waterfalls, Ohiopyle is a great place to spend your holiday weekend. For a unique perspective of the falls reserve your spot on a guided tour of the lower Yough river, which starts just below the falls. Or rent equipment to find your own way down the river. Either will produce a fun filled day and white water rafting memories that last a lifetime.
