Here at Ohiopyle State Park in Pennsylvania , going over the falls has become a great spectator sport. Although a few brave souls have gone over the falls.This happens only one time a year and goes all weekend long. Usually mid way through the season in August. This one is Buck one of our guides here at White Water Adventurers. Buck is a little different than any guide you may used to seeing. Buck is hearing impaired, he has been deaf since birth. That has not stopped him from any activity he wishes to pursue. Buck also plays on his High School football team as well. Whether you are looking to for a DC Weekend Trip or a Family Vacation, come see the spectacular site of kayakers and thrillseekers going over the Falls.

We are often asked are we going to get wet, when we go White Water Rafting. This picture tells it all, Yes you are going to get wet. This was taken on The Lower Yough in August after we had some nice rains to bring up the water levels.

Meet Steve one of our guides here at White Water Adventurers. He is a single guy in in his late 30's. When you come into Ohiopyle State Park, to enjoy White Water Rafting, and you need a guide in your raft, ask for Steve.

As usual, everyone had a wonderful trip! But as usual also, they all say they will be back again next year, but to date.... over the past decade, the one two rafters that keep coming back again and again are my wife and I, so two things are for sure, my wife and I will see you next year and I'll have a crew of folks rafting with us, but the crew.....they may be a different crowd.
 
I need to honestly say, "Thank You", because you guys have yet to make an trip unpleasant.
 
And I will always remember Moose's words, "Don't follow Ben next time!". I saw he does take the paths less traveled.

We are always asked..... What should I wear when White Water Rafting ?  Well this is a pretty good example, however color coordination is completely up to you.  Thanks to our employee of White Water Adventurers, Ben who wanted to show off his choice of attire for our guests.  Ben is sporting a farmer john wet suit under a spray top and a pair of nylon swim trunks.   

Summer is finally here. The rafting in Ohiopyle State Park has been unbelievable all spring - great water levels, not to cold. But now, the water is 3 feet on the gauge and the temperture is in the 90's. The first wave in Entrance rapid will definately get you going!

The weather if finally getting nice, but the best part about all of the rain that has come our way would be the the water levels for white water rafting. The water levels have been at "high water" for some time now. This is making even the lower yough feel like class 5 rafting, which is amazing. Its nice going at this time of year, because anything over four feet is considered "high water" and you get to have a guide in your boat with you so this makes you feel much better about the great experience. 

 Ohiopyle is such a great place for a family vacation. There are so many things to do. You can rent bikes for very reasonable prices. The bike trial is located at the end of town where you can either go to the left which will take you along the lower yough.This is also nice because you can walk from the bike trail right down to different rapids on the river and watch some of the rafting trips go by. Then if you decided to go to the right side of the bike trail that will take you along side the middle yough. The Middle yough is the part of the river which is mellow and great for young children to enjoy the outdoors. 

I had never been to the Cheat River before and a few of my friends were going and asked me to go. So i was all excited the night before when we were camping close to the area. Well over night the river levels came up alot, at this point i was very nervous. Thanks to the great guides at White Water Adventures, i felt safe and like i could have fun. I ended up having a great time, Chad was our guide and is a great guy. He works as a firefighter in DC and makes the quick trip on the weekends to run the Cheat river. This was a great experience and I would do it again and again. 

   Keep a eye out at Ohiopyle State Park, for the water dog. You may see him if you are White Water Rafting on the Lower yough, at Cucumber Rapid. For he has a watch full eye on you. If he is moved from his current location, keep us informed of his new home. Please do not feed him.

When you think about family rafting trips, you might think about yourself and family traveling to our area for rafting near Pittsburgh.

We consider family rafting trips a different way...our staff. Being in the tourism industry, we have had many employees come and go over the 37 years we've been operating. They come to us from high school or college and usually spend several years with us before leaving to pursue their real careers.

But then a funny thing happens. They come back. They call on the phone just to see how things are going. They send Christmas cards and let us know what's going in their lives. They come back and guide on the river for the summer, on the weekends, during their vacations. Just like parents, we welcome them home, like lost family members.

So when you come rafting with us this summer, ask your guides what they do for their "real" job. You might have Tim who does web design, John who is an EMT, Michael or Chad who are both firemen, Steve who works in graphic design, Pete or Jeff who are both teachers, Joe who is a chef,  Pat who is a political consultant, or one of our many other returning family members.

   This is Jim our river manager here at White Water Adventurers, in Ohiopyle State Park. He is turning 50 this year. So if you see him on the streets wish him a happy birthday. No he will not be annoyed, he loves talking to people.

Several years ago, my husband & I had the opportunity to go horseback riding through the rainforest in Puerto Rico. Guess what? It rained...no check that... it poured. We ended up soaked.  To this day, we laugh at the memory of the time that we got "rained on" in the rainforest.

Pennsylvania rafting is somewhat similar. You never know what is going to happen on any given day. Because we are in the mountains, our weather is unpredictable and we experience the full range of the seasons and all mother nature has to offer.
I was recently speaking with one of our guests who took one of our rafting guided trips on a cold, spring day. When I asked her if she had a good time, she replied, (I'm paraphrasing) that anyone could go rafting on an 80 degree summer day, but to wake up in the morning and see it snowing and still go rafting...That was an adventure.

How true. You only live once so you need to capture adventure where and when you can find it.  And just like my horseback riding experience through the rainforest, family rafting trips in the cold and rain create those lasting memories that bring a smile to your face when someone says, "Remember that time when..."

You might think that it was too cold for Pennsylvania white water rafting, but we had a trip today. Everyone donned plenty of cold weather gear (wetsuits, booties, and gloves) and headed for the river. They all looked quite colorful in their blue suits, and red life jackets.

Our wetsuits are farmer john style (like bib overalls) and come with either a nylon jacket or neoprene paddling jacket. So...you might be wondering, just what do you wear under a wetsuit? They must be right up against your skin for maximum effectiveness. Bathing suits are generally the preferred attire.

Part of the fun of Pennsylvania rafting is getting into a wetsuit in the spring. Not always the most attractive river attire but who cares when you get a day of fun on the river instead of being at work or school.

Spring is a great time to visit Ohiopyle State Park for a family vacation. The trees are all starting to bud and everything is green and beautiful.
