Plan your summer vacation

Well Ohiopyle is a little cold today with it being only 38 degrees and a little windy. That did not stop the few people who made a get away from the city. The couple had planed on a quick trip to Ohiopyle State Park, but then discovered us and came white water rafting. This DC weekend trip was a great and easy trip they said, it only took a few hours to get here and they did not have to worry about the crazy traffic they encounter in DC. They not only had a blast today in the cold but they are also planning their next Pennsylvania White Water Rafting vacation now.

Our season has officially started so don't be the last to book your fun family vacation white water rafting. If that is not your cup of tea you should check out our bike rentals along the Lower Yough as well as the Middle Yough. See you on the river, to book your trip give one of our office girls a call 1800 -WWA-RAFT ( 992-7238).

Winter Fun in Ohiopyle

Wednesday, January 20, 2010 by Abby Greenbaum
Some People think Ohiopyle might be a "ghost town" this time of year because it is just to darn cold to be out there on there river. Well last weekend i have some family come in from out of town, I wanted to show them around and also still have some fun. Believe me Ohiopyle State Park is packed full of activities and family fun all winter long. Our first adventure was hiking down to the wonderful cucumber falls located right outside of Ohiopyle. This was great to see with all of the snow and ice.

Our next stop after this was up to Sugar loaf which is the road heading towards our class 1and 2 river, the Middle yough. This is a great family vacation spot for all ages. We got kind of side tracked while heading to the river on this snowy day, we stopped at one of the many spots along the road and headed for a few hours on the cross country ski trails. This was alot of fun especially for the new timers we had along with us. After spending some time here we finally made it back to Ohiopyle to the local pub for some refreshments and to warm up. This is where we talked about how great the ohiopyle rafting is going to be this summer from all the winter melt.

So before planning your summer vacation to an over crowded beach, check out this beautiful area and plan your family vacation. See you this summer.

If you just need a quick weekend get-a-way, try Ohiopyle whitewater rafting, biking on the G.A.P. or just relaxing!!

Well rounded guides

Friday, July 10, 2009 by ww adventures
This is Abby she is one of our guides who grew up in the middle of the Ohiopyle State Park. One of the most popular questions here at whitewater  is what our guides do in the offseason. Most of our white water rafting guides are students or firemen or work at ski resorts in the off season, but Abby does a little of everything. She was a full time student at California University of Pa. While going to school she played ice hockey there so that is what would consume all of her free time until once again that ice would melt and she would then become one of our river girls again. This is just one story from all of our excelent guides here at white water. So get your last minute  vacation in and come see us!

Ohiopyle Family Rafting, Whitewater adventure
I'm hearing a lot of crying lately about how wet is't been in the Pittsburgh and Washington DC area this summer.   Are you crazy!  If you are looking for family vacation trips that embrace the rain you have got to come on one of our daily Ohiopyle Rafting Trips!

No question that if your summer plans include standing in line at an amusement park or eating hotdogs at a game...well this summer might be a disappointment to some.

However, if you are really looking for an activity to do with your family that takes advantage of all that nature has to offer, and THRIVES in the rain.   Ohiopyle Family Rafting in Ohiopyle State Park is running wide open this season!  Come get wet and laugh at the rain!

Beyond Rafting: Get this close to nature

Monday, June 29, 2009 by ww adventures
Ohiopyle Rafting VacationsA big part of Ohiopyle Rafting Vacations has to do with the unique view of nature you get from a real wilderness experience that's as close as many other DC weekend trips.

With today's Camera and dry-box technology Pennsylvania White Water Rafting can offer a perspective to photography that you will never find on a hike.

I'm sure we don't have to tell you that it's been a rainey summer so far.  Ohiopyle Rafting is perhaps the one outdoor summer activity where we dance for rain....rain means fast water, great family adventure and lot's ofopportunitiess to get outside and see the world in a way that can't compare to another painful weekend in the suburbs.  Bring your camera;  Bring yourfamilyy & friends and come paddle the river with White WaterAdventurerss!

Where to stay when Ohiopyle River Rafting?

Sunday, June 28, 2009 by ww adventures
There are lots of choices for lodging when planning a family vacation getaway to Ohiopyle State Park in Pennsylvania.  We would like to recommend the Yough Plaza Hotel.

What's great about the Yough Plaza is that it's the only hotel located right in the town of Ohiopyle.  This put you in easy walking distance to white water rafting, Ohiopyle Falls, the stores and restaurants of Ohiopyle as well as all the other activities you mike want to take advantage of before or after rafting at Ohiopyle.

One of the best activities right out your front door is biking along the Great Allegheny Passage which is a beautiful ride along the Yough River both up and downstream from the main whitewater rafting area.  White Water Adventures is a great source for brand new bike rental in Ohioplyle.

Kids white water rafting

Saturday, June 27, 2009 by ww adventures
I just wanted to say a little something about my family vacation to Ohiopyle State Park in Pennsylvania. We went there just thinking the only thing there was the river and we were just planning on swimming in a calm pools there and hanging out on the rocks. Well when we got there we saw people every where on the river and on the bike trail so we decided to explore a bit.

We ended up talking to one of the locals who pointed us in the direction of White Water Adventurers. This is where we met September, she was from the area and wanted us to have a great experience in the park. She signed us up for a guided white water rafting trip on the middle yough.

I was a little nervous about taking my young kids white water rafting on the river all alone, September had Andrew jump in our raft to help us out. This was great my kids had a blast, and have not stopped talking about it since we left. Thank you to September for your help and Andrew for making this a great vacation.

Top Family Vacations

I was recently on a family vacation in Colorado and we decided to go on a white water rafting expedition. We  went with Buffalo Joes White Water Rafting Company. It just so happened that our white water rafting guide was Alex. Alex is from Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania, when  we got talking  he told us when we got back home to Washington , DC we should check out the Ohiopyle State Park it was great for families and it was beatiful.
He use to be a guide there and recommended us to go rafting with White Water Adventurers. We decided to check it out a few weeks ago when we had those extremly hott days.
They had everything in that small little town that was right in the middle of the Ohiopyle State Park. My family went rafting on the Upper Yough which was the class 5 part of the river they offered. I wanted to check out the town and relax so  I rented a bike and rode on the bike trail and also had a little lunch at the coffee shop right there at white water. This was great, my family loved it and wanted to come back with their friends. I would recommened White Water Adventures to anyone, they have a friendly staff who is there to make your family vacation one to remember.

DC Getaway

Saturday, June 27, 2009 by ww adventures
I bet everyone is starting to think that summer is coming to an end quickly, i know i was! My time was running out for family vacation. I was running out of ideas, in the past we have done the whole disney world thing as well as going to all of those crowded beaches. We live in the DC area and so i started looking for anything close by to squeeze in last minute, the only tough thing about this was that the ages range in our family from 23,20, 12 and 7 so finding family vacation spots to please everyone is not very easy.

Then i came across Ohiopyle rafting trips.. I thought this place was great, they had activities for everyone. The three olds kids went white water rafting on the lower yough which was challenging enough and fun for all of them, while the youngest and I went rafting on the middle yough! That was the easy section, but my seven year old had a blast! The guides at whitewater adventurers did a great job with us on the middle, they even had squirt guns and games to play while floating down the river through the Ohiopyle State Park.
So I just wanted to share my story and thank everyone at whitewater adventurers for a great rafting trip and we will be sure to check out the class 5 whitewater rafting on our next visit.

The sights one sees when vacationing in and around the Ohiopyle area. I was thinking about whitewater rafting and a kayaker freind said "look to your left".  Well I knew Ohiople was settled by the Indians, hence the name Ohiopyle and Youghiogheny, but I didn't realize they were still here!   Actually this guy was part of a reinactment, showing past traditions.    He was also a large part of the conversations between the rafters, vacationers and the locals. Now if he was getting into a kayak or raft...

Our effort with the 3 R's

This is Laura, one of our seasoned guides, and we like to think of her as a recycling superhero. Her powers included x-ray litter vision and a thumb that is as green as her tomato plants. Be careful to not have any polystyrene in her vicinity as it is her Kryptonite, the evil Styrofoam. Thanks to Laura we are striving to be as green as we can be. She has inspired us all to reduce waste and recycle all that we can. If you have any ideas on how we can continue to be environmentally responsible in the environmentally beautiful Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania let us know. Bring your whole family for a white water rafting vacation and witness Laura's powers that are only enhanced when on the water.
